When considering gynecomastia surgery costs, look at the planned procedure, which items are covered by South Korea’s National Health Insurance, what your private medical insurance covers and what the quoted cost includes. Even when National Health Insurance covers some items, your final out-of-pocket cost and any reimbursement from private insurance need to be checked separately.

Start with the treatment you need

The extent of surgery varies from person to person, even when the concern is an enlarged chest. At Damsoyu Hospital, we assess breast glandular tissue and discuss gland removal and liposuction. During your consultation, we look at which examinations you need, how much glandular tissue would be removed and whether liposuction is also planned. Damsoyu Hospital’s gynecomastia FAQ (in Korean)

Alongside “How much does gynecomastia surgery cost?”, ask “What treatment is planned in my case?” The initial explanation you receive before an examination may differ from the surgical plan made after it. When comparing costs mentioned in other people’s accounts, first check whether they had the same treatment.

Ask the hospital and your insurer different questions

Under South Korea’s National Health Insurance, the cost of a covered item is split between the insurer and the patient. Non-covered items do not receive National Health Insurance coverage. Being told that “insurance covers the surgery” does not, by itself, explain which costs you will pay. Checking coverage for each planned examination, procedure and treatment material makes the cost breakdown easier to understand. Coverage under South Korean private indemnity medical insurance depends on your own policy. Ask the hospital about your diagnosis, planned treatment and the documents it can issue. Ask your insurer about the policy’s coverage, exclusions and required documents. Whether your individual claim will be paid must also be checked separately with your insurer. Check what the cost includes before and after surgery

Knowing what is included helps you understand the costs involved before and after surgery. Look at the items you need, from examinations through follow-up care, and whether each is included. We can explain the inclusion of each item during your consultation.

  • Examinations: Which consultations, imaging examinations and preoperative tests are planned, and are they included in the quoted cost?
  • Surgery and anesthesia: What is the plan for gland removal and liposuction, and how are anesthesia and recovery observation explained?
  • Aftercare: Will you need prescribed medicines, a compression garment or other supplies, and follow-up visits? Are their costs included?
  • Possible changes: What explanation will you receive if examination results change the treatment plan?

For each item, ask: “Do I need it?”, “Is it included?” and “If it is separate, when will the cost be explained?” An explanation tied to your own treatment plan, rather than just a list of item names, helps you distinguish the costs involved and anything that needs a separate explanation.

What to prepare for your consultation

Make a note of when the symptoms began, where you feel discomfort and any previous examinations or treatment. If you have existing examination records, ask us what format to bring. If you are also contacting your insurer, have the policy name and the insurer’s list of required documents ready.

During an online consultation, ask which information can be provided before an examination and which decisions require a clinical assessment. The explanation before testing is general, so check the decisions made after your examination when confirming your individual surgical estimate.

Please contact Damsoyu Hospital for your surgical cost estimate. You can ask about the extent of surgery you need and what the cost includes through Damsoyu Hospital’s telephone consultation request form (in Korean).
